Register of Marriages Celebrated in the County of Grant Territory of New Mexico 1868-1872

The following records were found in Grant County Mining Deed Book, 1868-1872, page 315, at the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives in Santa Fe by Ann L. Mossman. As published in the New Mexico Genealogist, March 1990, pp. 10-12.

Grant County was formed from Doña Ana County on 30 Jan 1868 by the Territorial Legislature. The county seat at Silver City was founded in 1870. The original name was San Vicente de La Cienega but during the time of the mining boom and end of the Civil War, Anglo settlers changed the name in honor of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Grant County Civil Marriage records 1872-1946 are now at the Grant County Courthouse at P.O. Box 898, Silver City, NM 88061. The 18 books covered by those dates have not been microfilmed. *Names are shown herein with the same spelling as found in the record by the transcriber.
