Grant County, New Mexico

Marriages 1909

As published in the New Mexico Genealogist, Sep 1976, pp. 67-69,
and Dec 1976, pp. 95-97.
See also 1910 Grant County marriage records.

Grant County was formed from Doña Ana County on 30 Jan 1868 by the Territorial Legislature. The county seat at Silver City was founded in 1870. The original name was San Vicente de La Cienega but during the time of the mining boom and end of the Civil War, Anglo settlers changed the name in honor of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. These county records were copied by Janet A. Curtis, CG, from material then located in the Coronado Room of the University of New Mexico Library. Grant County Civil Marriage records 1872-1946 are now at the Grant County Courthouse at P.O. Box 898, Silver City, NM 88061. The 18 books covered by those dates have not been microfilmed. Grant County Marriage registers 1868-1872 are housed at the NM State Records Center in Santa Fe, NM.

In the listing below the residences are Silver City and/or New Mexico unless otherwise indicated.

Names are shown herein with the same spelling as found in the record by the transcriber. When searching for a particular name, try several possible variations in your search criteria.Underlined letters indicate an illegible or questionable portion of a word. Researchers are always encouraged to study the record themselves whenever possible.
