Errata

50th Logo

In keeping with our Commitment to Quality in all our publications, the Society publishes information in as nearly an exact reproduction of the original record as possible. In articles posted by the New Mexico Genealogist or on the NMGS web site, the editors may add one or more more steps in keeping with their own standards.

Also, in case a proven error is reported to the Society, we are maintaining this Errata page as further assurance of our commitment. This aims to provide a closed loop self correcting system. Our readers can be assured of care and accuracy to the greatest extent possible.

1) Abiquiu Marriages 1756-1826, Santo Thomas de Abiquiu, Book C6.
Page 40, marriage dated 26 April 1809 should read Philipe Gonzales, widower of Francisca Chacon (not Chaves). Verified by checking AASF Reel 26, Frame 896.
(Information from Thelma Suazo of Seattle, WA, December 1998.)

2) Santa Fe Baptisms, Vol. I, Book A16.
a) Sandoval, Maria Rosalia, p. 2. Correct date: Dec 13, 1747.
b) Sandoval, Maria Rosalia, p. 234. Correct date: Feb 11,1781.
c) Sandoval, Maria Manuela, p. 267. Correct date: May 27, 1785.
(Information from Armando Sandoval of Albuquerque, NM, Aug 15, 2002. )

3) New Mexico Spanish and Mexican Colonial Census.
An entry in the Spanish and Mexican Colonial Census of 1845 was incorrectly written by a census taker 154 years ago, then extracted and published as it was found in the record. See New Mexico Spanish and Mexican Colonial Censuses, 1790, 1823, 1845 extracted by Mrs. Virginia Olmsted, published as New Mexico Genealogical Society Publication #B2, rev. 1979. Correct census is as follows:

Ma Pascuala Trugijo (widow)
Manuel Martin
Mariano Martin

That "Mariano" is in fact Maximo Martin, son of Pedro Martin and Pascuala Trujillo. I know that the correct name is Maximo as he is my great-great grandfather. The person who wrote the original census made the mistake of not crossing the "X" in Maximo.

The marriage record of said Maximo Martin [AASF 94, Mora Marriages frame 328, April 21, 1857] confirms his parents' names as Pedro Martin and Pascuala Trujillo. His brother, Manuel Jorge Martin, married Candalaria Trujillo. Information received from Maximo Martinez, Littleton, CO. mmarti5140@aol.com.

To all readers: If you find an error in any NMGS publication, please let us know by writing full details to webmaster@nmgs.org. Dependable and accurate material is an important feature of NMGS publications, and we will make necessary corrections.
